We here at Cinema Degeneration have declared May 2022 "Rutger Hauer Appreciation Month!" Twice a week we'll be releasing a show diving into a different film from Mr. Hauer's catalog of 175 film and television roles all throughout the month of May. The late Rutger Hauer, who unfortunately passed away in 2019, was a consummate professional thespian, writer, director, and devoted environmentalist, amongst many many other things. He graced the silver screen in many amazing shockers and brilliant films, normally playing heavies and villains and was known for his intense yet subtle performances. His amazing talent truly knew no bounds. For our 7th episode we bring you a made for HBO film from 1991 called "WEDLOCK" aka DEADLOCK from Lewis Teague the director of Alligator. It also stars Mimi Rogers, James Remar, and Joan Chen. Wedlock follows Frank (Hauer) a man convicted of stealing millions in diamonds after being double crossed by his partners and landing in a futuristic prison where each prisoner is randomly linked to each other and bound with explosive collars. If they are separated by more than 100 yards the collars kill both inmates. This science fiction and comedy hybrid has to be seen to be believed! For our 6th episode we bring you the film that Hauer is most known for, the unforgettable 1982 dystopian science fiction classic "BLADE RUNNER" from legendary director Ridley Scott and based on the Phillip K. Dick novel 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?' Also starring Harrison Ford as the titular Blade Runner, a rogue mercenary like cop whose specialty is chasing down and 'retiring' androids / aka replicants in the near future of 2019. For our 5th episode we bring you a review and deep dive discussion on the absolute bonkers insane science fiction/horror/buddy cop flick extravaganza with the 1992 "SPLIT SECOND" which also stars Kim Cattrall, Neil Duncan and Michael J. Pollard. This film is set in the flooded city of London in a futuristic and dystopian future of 2008, where our anti-hero and cop Harley Stone (Hauer) chases what could be an inhuman serial killer across the city. For our 4th episode we bring you a review and deep dive discussion on the crazy Hauer exploitation extravaganza with the 2011 "HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN" from genre director Jason Eisener. Starting out life as a fake trailer that won the Grindhouse trailer competition, Hobo With A Shotgun bloomed into the crazy feature film it is today. Hauer portrays the titular Hobo character that rolls into an urban setting of chaos and goes about bringing justice to the unfortunate citizens with his trusty pump action shotgun one shell at a time. Thomas Howell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It's a harrowing tale of what happens to an innocent young man when he picks up a hitchhiker that turns out to be a serial killer. Hauer portrays the titular Hitcher with an eerie conviction so rarely personified on the big screen.
